PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
Administers benefits for bank personnel, including all medical and life insurance products, and 401(k). Services employees in the day-to-day needs of each of these benefits.

- Ensures the confidentiality of customer non-public personal information and secures information systems to comply with bank regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Administers benefits programs designed by the bank to insure team members;
- Participates in the preparation and distribution of written and verbal information to inform team members of benefits programs, such as insurance plans, 401(k) plans and other benefit plans;
- Analyzes existing benefits policies of the bank and compares the policies to prevailing practices among similar financial institutions;
- Reconciles monthly insurance billing;
- Complies with all aspects of the Healthcare Reform Act, including monitoring hours of part-time employees;
- Administers cafeteria plan;
- Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including, but not limited to ERISA and HIPAA;
- Enrolls team members in various group and voluntary insurance products;
- Prepares notifications to team members of changes in benefit programs;
- Educates team members on benefit topics;
- Coordinates annual benefits enrollments with various insurance companies;
- Holds quarterly calls for new hires to attend to explain Southern Bank’s benefit program
- Prepares a semi-annual 401(K) report for the Human Resources Officer
- Administers FMLA, including but not limited to, handling FMLA certification paperwork, tracking FMLA hours, and monitoring health insurance premiums for team members on leave
- Serves as back-up to Payroll Clerk; and,
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned by Human Resources Officer.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Good understanding of human relations and the ability to maintain satisfactory relationships with employees; and,
- High attention to detail and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; and,
- Knowledge of relevant employment laws and regulations (ERISA, HIPAA, etc.)
- Excellent interpersonal communication and computer skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Minimum 3-5 year experience in human resources and/or benefits administration;
- Experience and understanding of employee benefit principals, including health insurance, retirement plans, and flexible spending accounts.
