Overview
Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, the preeminent distributor of beverage alcohol and Forbes 10th Largest Private Company in America is seeking an innovative and strategic Director of Internal Communications to build and lead a new center of excellence within our Internal Communications team. This position will report to and work closely with the Vice President of Communications & CSR to set the vision and infrastructure for enterprise-wide internal communications to support Southern Glazer’s business strategy and organizational culture. The Director will establish and lead a governance framework, champion high standards, and provide expert guidance to functional and market leaders. Additionally, this role will drive the development of consistent messaging across all platforms, lead the implementation of a new employee experience platform (EXP), support change management initiatives with strategic communications counsel, and enhance communication accessibility for our entire workforce, including our non-wired operations teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to build a transformative internal communications function at Southern Glazer’s, enabling alignment, engagement, and support for our employees across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
Internal Communications Strategy and Governance:
Establish a center of excellence to provide strategic direction for all internal communications activities and outcomes across the organization.
Set up and lead an Internal Communications Governance Council to ensure alignment of messages, brand consistency, and engagement with Southern Glazer’s strategic goals.
Create a champion network of communicators across functions and regions, fostering collaboration and promoting high-quality, impactful communication practices.
Policy and Process Development:
Develop and implement internal communications policies, standards, and ways of working that drive consistency and effectiveness of all enterprise communications.
Provide resources, tools, and training to leaders, communicators, and employees, establishing a clear and unified approach to all internal messaging and communication practices.
Content and Messaging Consistency:
Drive a cohesive messaging framework aligned with Southern Glazer’s vision, strategy, and values, ensuring clarity and consistency across all communications.
Guide functional and market leaders in refining and amplifying their communications to increase message quality, engagement, and impact.
Employee Experience Platform (EXP) Implementation:
Lead the implementation of a new EXP to streamline and centralize employee engagement and communications, ensuring it aligns with the needs of all employee groups, including non-wired employees.
Work cross-functionally with IT, Digital, HR, and Operations to enhance the accessibility and functionality of the EXP, supporting an inclusive and connected employee experience.
Channel Development and Accessibility:
Enhance internal communication channels to expand reach and improve accessibility of information for non-wired employees (e.g., drivers, warehouse teams), ensuring every employee has access to key updates and information.
Innovate and expand upon existing channels, with a focus on delivering clear, timely, and accessible communications that support engagement and connection.
Strategic Support for Leaders and Stakeholders:
Act as a trusted advisor to functional and market leaders, helping them plan, create, and deliver effective communications that align with Southern Glazer’s strategic goals and culture.
Provide change management support with strategic communications counsel, partnering with leaders to guide teams through transitions and align messaging with Southern Glazer’s values and objectives.
Partner with business leaders to enhance the quality and effectiveness of their communications, maximizing clarity and reach to ensure alignment and engagement across diverse teams.
Leadership and Team Development:
Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing internal communications team, providing strategic direction, mentorship, and growth opportunities.
Foster a collaborative and results-oriented environment, encouraging continuous improvement and alignment with Southern Glazer’s strategic priorities.
Additional Primary Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
7 to10 years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or a related field within a large organization.
Proven experience establishing communications governance frameworks and driving enterprise-wide communications initiatives.
Strong record of implementing and managing digital employee experience platforms and enhancing internal communications channels.
Skills:
Exceptional strategic thinking and execution skills and proven experience leading highly effective and collaborative teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and inspire at all levels.
Expertise in change management, organizational communications, and execution of digital communication platforms.
Competencies:
A collaborative, influential leader with the ability to drive alignment and shared purpose across complex, diverse teams.
High emotional intelligence and relationship-building skills to work effectively across functions and locations.
