Position Summary :
The Academic Advisor for Nursing Students serves as a dedicated advisor to nursing students, guiding them throughout their academic journey and ensuring proper progression through the nursing program. This role is responsible for comprehensive academic advising, file management, registration support, and the development of student progression plans. The advisor will also engage with prospective students and their families to provide information about the nursing program, assist with recruitment efforts, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of academic and recruitment strategies.
Key Responsibilities :
- Academic Advising :
Provide one-on-one academic advising for assigned nursing students, including scheduled and walk-in appointments, as well as group advising sessions.
Maintain and update student records in electronic systems (DegreeWorks, Starfish, student worksheets) for accurate documentation of academic progress.
Track and report summary data on prospective, admitted, and enrolled students, including inactive students, to keep leadership (Director of Student Services, Assistant Deans, Associate Dean for Academic Programs, and Dean) informed of nursing enrollment trends.
Oversee the registration of nursing students for classes each term, ensuring they are enrolled in courses that align with their academic plans and requirements.
Participate in recruitment activities such as nursing Explore Day, Preview SIUE, and other events to engage with prospective students and families.
Work closely with colleagues in the School of Nursing and the wider university community to ensure effective advising and student services.
