Description
The Academic Advisor I or II- Student Nurse Achievement Program (SNAP) plays a crucial role within the School of Nursing by providing guidance and support to nursing students, particularly those from racially, ethnically, and / or culturally diverse backgrounds or underserved communities. This role involves comprehensive file management, academic advising, student registration, and the development of personalized academic progression plans. The Advisor will also engage with prospective students and their families, participate in community outreach, and contribute to recruitment efforts, especially targeting underrepresented groups.
Key Responsibilities :
- Provide continuous, conscientious academic advising for pre-entry and admitted nursing students, including individual appointments, walk-ins, and group advising sessions.
- Serve as the lead advisor for students enrolled in the SNAP Program and attend all program meetings and events.
- Maintain accurate and timely records for assigned nursing students and document all interactions in student electronic records (DegreeWorks, Starfish, etc.).
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external organizations to enhance the visibility and impact of SNAP.
- Participate in department and university recruitment events such as School of Nursing Explore Day and Preview SIUE.
- Recruit and advise racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse students from underserved backgrounds interested in nursing.
- Develop and implement programs and initiatives to promote the academic achievement of underrepresented students.
- Be available for evening or weekend hours as required, with occasional regional travel.
Salary Information : Advisor I : $42,500
Advisor II : $45,500
