About The Job
The Supervisor, Support & Hospital Phlebotomy is responsible for supervising the operations of and coordinating the activities within phlebotomy and/or support departments, focusing on the needs of our patients, clients and staff ensuring accuracy from the point of specimen collection.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee activities through observation and review daily.
- Focus on customer service. Prioritize, identify, and resolve problems maintaining open communication with clients.
- Oversee the scheduling of personnel to provide adequate coverage and efficient use of personnel.
- Oversee the orientation and training of new personnel, nurses, PCT’s, MA’s and students.
- Maintain documentation of orientation and training activities.
- Resolve problems and issues related to staff as well as daily operations within the departments and informs Laboratory Support Operations Manager as needed.
- Develop the skills and abilities of staff members to assist building a team atmosphere.
- Review, revise and write policies and procedures for inspections.
- Document personnel performance evaluations, counseling, and disciplinary action.
- Prepare and adhere to the yearly budget, in collaboration with the laboratory staff.
- Maintain bench skills to function efficiently in all designated areas.
- Oversee laboratory registration, order entry activities and inpatient phlebotomy, including all staff activities.
- Ensure designated areas are prepared for CAP and DNV inspections, working with laboratory staff.
- Coordinate daily activities as it relates to operations between staff and other areas of the laboratory and hospital.
- Interact with clients as needed, working with Business Development and Clinical Specialist.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- ASCP required.
- A minimum of three-five (3-5) years of laboratory experience required.
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere and independently.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
- Ability to exercise judgement in the analysis of facts and conditions regarding individual problems to determine what actions should be taken.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment without compromise of decision-making skills or disposition.
- Ability to plan and perform diversified duties requiring an extensive knowledge of a particular field.
- Ability to communicate effectively and establish a cooperative, collaborative working environment.
- Ability to set priorities, define goals, set objectives, solve problems and initiate/carry projects through to completion.
