Southern Virginia University is seeking a talented and motivated Student Account Representative to assist our team in informing students of their financial obligations and assisting them in meeting those commitments. We strive to make the students experience as smooth as possible and aim for excellence in our customer service.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the accurate and timely collection of current and delinquent receivables, and accurate posting of payments.
- Collects and accurately processes various types of payments from students; processes deposits for university departments; prepares and verifies cash and check totals for regular bank deposits.
- Makes and accepts phone calls on current, past due and delinquent student accounts. Completes appropriate forms/reports and corresponds with students as needed.
- Researches and responds to student and departmental inquiries, and provides information to aid with problem resolution, helps ensure accuracy of student financial records and documentation.
- Verifies and closes other cashier daily sessions; reconciles department and the organization activity to ensure proper accounting for daily activity; reconciles daily transactions between systems; assigns and removes financial holds on student accounts as required.
- Assists customers with inquiries regarding 1098-T tax forms, including correcting student account records; generating duplicate statements; reproducing the 1098-T forms.
- Manage monthly payment plans.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Accounts
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability and willingness to make phone calls and have face-to-face interactions with colleagues and students in addition to electronic and written communications
- Ability to provide excellent customer service with professional, helpful, and positive demeanor
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills in order to effectively interact with a diverse campus community
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete assigned duties and responsibilities to meet deadlines
- Ability to handle and process confidential and sensitive student financial information with discretion
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
- Knowledge of and skills in Microsoft Office and G-Suite
