Accounting Specialist
To protect the Company and minimize costs by promoting Company-wide compliance with sales related tax matters and state laws relating to sales, use and other business taxes and licenses. To support store personnel by providing technical knowledge and assistance in tax-related matters. s tax-related matters.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Certificates of Exemption
Oversee maintenance of certificates of exemption database
Ensure accuracy of certificates of exemption
Ensure certificates are updated periodically or as required by State tax authorities.
Internal and External Support
Provide assistance to personnel and customers with tax-related issues.
Educate personnel on relevant tax law as needed.
Educate personnel on tax-related system issues.
Oversee sales tax debit and credit process and ensure accurate and timely issuance.
Business Licenses
Oversee the process for maintaining compliance with all state and local business license requirements for the various locations.
Complete or Review preparation of required forms and data necessary to compute taxes due.
Sales Tax Laws
Update knowledge continuously on State sales tax laws and regulations
Assist with the company’s month end close as needed.
Other accounting and tax related projects as necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Two-year degree in accounting/business administration preferred. Prior experience in sales and use tax is strongly preferred.
Must be a self-starter and able to work independently yet recognize the appropriate instances to ask for guidance. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and management. Sensitive to due dates and the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities are critical.
Strong computer skills, including advanced spreadsheet capabilities, are also essential.
