POOL MANAGER
Under direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, works as a Pool Manager at both District’s aquatic facilities. Oversees aquatic staff of Swim Instructors, Lifeguards, Senior Lifeguards, and Pool Cashiers, during instruction and public swim hours.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Directs operations of aquatic facilities
Supervises and schedules Swim Instructors, Lifeguards, Senior Lifeguards, and Pool Cashiers to ensure proper staffing levels during all hours of operation.
Enforces all rules and reports any violations of staff to supervisor.
Oversees the District’s swim lesson program
Ensures cleanliness of the pool, pool area and office areas of aquatic centers.
Renders care in the most current American Red Cross techniques in water safety, lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR/AED to persons in need of assistance.
Follows oral and written instructions.
Works harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public.
Performs under various weather conditions.
Enforces the proper conduct of all staff members under his/her supervision and is directly responsible for all duties performed by staff members under his/her supervision.
Conducts periodic audits of CPR/AED, first aid, and rescue skills.
Prepares detailed and complete written reports including accident/incident reports.
Reviews accident/incident reports for completeness and accuracy before submitting to the Recreation Supervisor.
Greets public, answers telephones, and provides information to public or directs them to proper office as scheduled.
Communicates effectively and tactfully with the participants and parents or guardians.
Enforces rules and regulations, prevents accidents, and performs swimming rescues and first aid.
Opens and closes pool and office, performing daily chemical tests and inspection of all aquatic equipment and emergency equipment. Assists with the training, orientation, and evaluation of aquatic staff supervises patrons and participants in pool and deck area.
Provides accident prevention and education of staff and the public.
Oversees patron registrations for District programs
Oversees the opening and closing of cash register and is accountable for deposits of daily revenue.
Reviews daily reconciliation of cash.
Responsible for daily inventory counts and recordkeeping for concession items.
Installs and removes lane lines and pool covers.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of and Skilled in: American Red Cross lifeguard and rescue techniques, all aspects of water safety, first aid, CPR and AED; enforce pool rules; aquatic safety and pool operations; scheduling of classes and lifeguards during recreational swim hours.
Ability to: Follow oral and written instructions; work harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public; train and supervise staff; monitor activity in aquatic areas as well as staff to prevent accidents; rescue swimmers; administer first aid; train in American Red Cross and District lifeguarding skills and first aid procedures; ensure safe operation of the swim center; maintain patron control and effectively enforce facility rules and regulations; inspect and maintain facilities and equipment; perform administrative tasks, such as completing accident reports, incident reports, injury reports, and daily logs, as well as staff and class scheduling, staff meetings and drills, supervise employees.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform the skills required in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification. Must be able to perform physical labor, lift, carry, push and pull heavy objects, walk, stand, stoop and crouch for long periods; and climb ladders. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform under various weather conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years old. Must have at least 3 years’ experience as a Lifeguard and/or Swim Instructor. Minimum one-year supervisory experience.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
The following American Red Cross certifications must be completed prior to employment as a Pool Manager:
- Lifeguard Training/ First Aid /CPR/AED
- First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22)
- Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) – highly recommended
EMPLOYMENT LENGTH
Employment may be offered on a part time basis during March. Beginning in June, employees will be expected to work 30-40 hours per week for the entire season which runs from June through September. As a condition of employment, may be required to work a variety of hours including evenings, weekends and holidays and participate in regular in-service trainings throughout the aquatic season. The aquatics season runs during the following dates, beginning in 2025:
-Winter/Spring hours: February - May
-Summer hours: End of May - End of August
-Fall hours: September – October
COMPENSATION $19.50 - $20.50 per hour
STATUS Part-time; Non-Exempt.
