GENERAL SUMMARY
Serves as a Collections Specialist in the Credit Union administrative setting. The primary responsibility is to provide excellent service by demonstrating the principals of SouthPoint Financial Credit Union and adhering to the vision of “ Empowering People to Enhance Lives ”. The Collections Specialist is responsible for recovering assets owed to SouthPoint for delinquent loan and share accounts. All member contact must remain professional and comply with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The Collections Specialist implements the collection of delinquent loans, negative share accounts and charge off loans and takes all necessary steps to protect the assets of SouthPoint Financial Credit Union, in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations. Professional service toward all SouthPoint Financial Credit Union members is mandatory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Contact high balance and / or delinquent members up to 120 days delinquent by phone and mail to determine the reasons for balance or delinquency, and assist them in developing plans to bring accounts current.Follow collection procedures on delinquent loan accounts up to 120 days delinquent.Respond to all collection related staff and member inquiries in a timely manner.Ensure member records are maintained as needed through accurate documentation of all member contact and collection activity on member accounts, including any Credit Union initiated activity.Perform skip tracing duties as necessary.Research payment histories to ensure account records are accurate.Act in a manner that ensures the security of credit union assets, dealing with member accounts in a confidential manner and applying professional standards to handling unusual or difficult situations.Identify accounts that require either legal or other resources to be collected.Ensure that credit and collection policies, procedures, practices, and documentation meet federal and state regulations.Assist in the coordination of the repossession and foreclosure of collateral as needed.Assist in preparation of activity reports for the Credit Union.Process various legal request including levies and garnishments. Research requested documentation for subpoenas, search warrants and account verifications.Perform and respond to consumer credit disputes.Respond and perform loan modification (TDR, workout, deferral and forbearance) requests following credit union and compliance guidelines and regulations.Perform other duties as assigned.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Attend conferences, training courses and seminars.Maintain a basic understanding of bankruptcy laws.Abide by all Bank Secrecy Act responsibilities for this job role.SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Professional, well-developed interpersonal skills essential for serving members and projecting a positive image as a representative of the Credit Union.Flexible, positive attitude with the desire to do the right thing for our members.Highly organized and self-motivated, able to manage daily workflow with minimal supervision.JOB SPECIFICATIONS
High School graduate, college preferred or specialized coursework in the area of responsibility.A minimum of 1 year experience in a lending department or retail office of a credit union or financial institution or related work experience preferred.Requires thorough knowledge of the Credit Union's policies, procedures, products and services relating to the lending and collections function.Intermediate mathematical skills required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.).Basic Automated Systems skills required, MS Office and in house data systems.Availability to work outside of normal office hours as requested.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to utilize / view a monitor for an extended period of time.Must frequently use a keyboard to enter data.Sitting 90-95% and standing 5-10%.Working at a computer 85-90% of the day.Utilizing the phone 70 – 80%.Occasional lifting up to ten lbs.WORKING CONDITIONS
