Job Overview:
The RISE After School Program Staff is an integral part of running the RISE After-School Program (for grades K-5). The key role of a Staff Member is to build positive relationships with students while supervising and supporting them in order to assist in their growth and development academically, socially, and emotionally. The amount of investment and care that Staff Members give to each student directly impacts the success of our program.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Supervise students throughout the duration of the program to ensure safety and to implement the SSYO behavior program to manage student behavior.
2. Lead group activities and provides instruction to students under the supervision of the RISE After School Director.
3. Exercise independent judgment while working with students, in a manner consistent with SSYO policies and procedures.
4. Hold high standards and expectations for students in such a way that personal growth is encouraged.
5. Connects with students regularly by talking and engaging in activities with them.
6. Works with individuals and groups of students to improve skills in decision making and interpersonal relations.
Additional Duties
- Performs minor first aid as needed in a manner that follows the SSYO guidelines.
- Clean and organize the areas of the building used by the RISE After School program every week.
Qualifications
- Demonstrates high character in line with the Core Values.
- A passion for fulfilling the mission of SSYO: to build strong young lives so that our community will thrive.
- At least 1-2 years of experience working with young children.
- Basic knowledge of child development.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification or willingness to obtain certification within 2 months of hire.
- Ability to understand and implement the SSYO behavior policy and manage student behavior effectively.
- Ability to handle behaviors that are challenging and to think critically to solve problems during difficult situations.
- Ability to independently manage a group of 5-20 students.
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively with diverse student and community populations.
- Ability to receive feedback and correction in a calm and professional manner leading to effective improvement.
- Ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, with staff, students, and parents.
- Ability to collaborate and interact with individuals and groups of all ages.
- Ability to consistently attend work, work activities, and maintain clear punctuality.
