Adjunct Instructor – High School Equivalency (HSE)

Location: LBJ Job Corps (Macon County)
Schedule: Thursdays and Fridays, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Pay Rate: $19.19 to $21.00 an Hour

Expected Weekly Hours: 16

Position Overview:

The College and Career Readiness department is seeking a dedicated Adjunct Instructor to teach High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation courses at the LBJ Job Corps Center in Macon County, NC on Thursdays and Fridays, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This position focuses on equipping adult learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully pass their GED or High School Equivalency tests.

Responsibilities:

• Teach assigned HSE preparation courses, including reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, in alignment with course outlines and schedules.
• Utilize effective teaching principles tailored to the needs of adult learners.
• Develop and implement engaging, contextualized curriculum to enhance student learning and retention.
• Maintain accurate records, including attendance, grades, and progress reports.
• Actively support student retention and recruitment efforts.
• Submit all required reports and documentation accurately and on time.
• Attend instructor and departmental meetings as scheduled.
• Stay current with professional development to maintain and enhance teaching skills.
• Foster a positive and supportive learning environment for adult learners.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Prior teaching experience, especially with adult learners, is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with developmental education philosophy and current teaching methods.
• Strong background in math and writing to effectively support HSE preparation.
• Ability to use technology, including computers and educational software, to enhance instruction and maintain records.
• Passion for working with adult learners and commitment to their success.
