What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Co-op Student position at Southwestern Electric Cooperative Inc.?
Southwestern Electric is seeking two motivated Engineering Co-op students for the summer semester.
This opportunity will provide real-world experience from the perspective of an electric utility cooperative to a current student pursuing a degree in the engineering field. The Engineering Co-op Student will be mentored by the Engineering Supervisor in cooperative operations that include utility line design review, power system modeling, protective device management, and GIS/mapping infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & SCOPE OF LEARNING
- Assist in providing engineering services including design and cost estimates for construction and operation of the electrical systems.
- Aid in the implementation of a new electrical modeling system.
- Participate in the review and update of data necessary for the conversion from Milsoft to DEW.
- Ensure accuracy of protective device data, including reclosers, regulators, transformers, and other electrical devices.
- Review work orders and design drawings to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Compile and assist in the analysis of data.
- Provide support for the GIS/Mapping dependent systems and applications.
- Become proficient in applicable regulatory codes and construction standards such as NESC, NEC, and RUS standards.
- Become proficient in the use of engineering software.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Current enrollment in Engineering program
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must be proficient in the application of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Must possess the ability and desire to self-educate in diverse subjects involving both hardware and software.
- Must possess the ability to work independently.
- Must be self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and plan tasks.
- Must be of high integrity and possess good working habits.
