What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Driver Trainer position at Spartan Carrier Group?
The Spartan Certified Driver Trainer (CDT) plays a critical role in supporting the Spartan Carrier Group’s commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence. This role will focus on daily transportation and logistics operations with an emphasis on driver safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Act as the terminal safety advocate by assisting the Director of Safety with recurring safety and operational tasks and initiatives relating to risk mitigation, safety performance, and regulatory compliance.
• Assist in conducting new hire onboarding including performing pre-employment and post-incident evaluation of operator’s driving skills and providing instruction on operational procedures and injury prevention methods.
• Assist the Director of Safety by conducting monthly observations and inspections of the assigned terminal(s) for safety performance and regulatory compliance including review of SmartDrive events, safety performance, Driver Qualification file compliance, etc.
• Work with the Director of Safety to solve issues identified during training, observations, or inspections of operators and terminals and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist operations, maintenance, and/or safety with any truck moves throughout Spartan’s area of operation including completing routes as assigned or scheduled and conducting yard audits as requested by the Terminal Manager.
• Providing support in other areas, including assisting with travel to other terminals, completing routes as assigned or scheduled, conducting customer start-ups and interventions, and repositioning equipment.
• Act as a commercial driving expert and resource by coaching, assisting, and inspiring other operators to improve their skills as it relates to defensive driving techniques and Spartan safety policies.
Qualifications:
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and guidelines is preferred.
• Previous training experience is preferred.
• A valid Class A CDL.
• A minimum of 3 years’ driving experience.
• A clean driving record.
