The Role

Position Overview

The Controller (Accounts Payable Manager) will oversee the accounts payable process, ensuring that all vendor invoices and payments are processed accurately and on time. This role will be key to managing the financial health of the company by providing insights into cash flow, optimizing payment cycles, and ensuring compliance with company policies. As the Controller, you will be responsible for leading a team, collaborating with cross-functional departments, and ensuring financial processes are efficient, transparent, and aligned with best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounts Payable Management:
  • Oversee the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice receipt, verification, approval, and payment processing.
  • Ensure that all vendor accounts are managed efficiently and that payments are made accurately and timely.
  • Monitor outstanding payables and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Team Leadership:
  • Supervise and mentor the accounts payable team, providing guidance and support to ensure optimal performance and development.
  • Create and enforce policies and procedures to ensure proper handling of all payables and financial transactions.
  • Cash Flow Management:
  • Work closely with the finance team to manage cash flow and optimize payment cycles.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to ensure cost-effective payment terms and take advantage of any discounts or early payment opportunities.
  • Reporting & Reconciliation:
  • Prepare and maintain regular accounts payable reports for management, highlighting trends, outstanding payments, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring that all accounts payable transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.
  • Compliance & Audit Support:
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, tax regulations, and accounting standards related to accounts payable.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to support audits and resolve any issues related to accounts payable.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline the accounts payable function and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Leverage technology and automation tools to improve workflow and reduce manual tasks.

Ideal Profile

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred, but not required.
  • Experience:
  • 5 years of experience in accounts payable, accounting, or finance, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
  • Experience in the logistics, trucking, or transportation industry is a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes and best practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities, with the capability to work across departments.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with cloud-based financial systems and automation tools.
  • Knowledge of trucking or logistics industry-specific financial processes.
