Position Overview:
The Associate Executive Director (AED) for Homeless and Housing Services maintains oversight and manages the daily administrative operations for each program within Homeless and Housing Services. The AED provides direct supervision to all program leadership.
The Homeless and Housing Services program locations consist of: The Marillac Family Shelter, Michael’s House, Albany Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH), Columbia County Housing Program, Project HOST (serving Albany and Rensselaer Counties), Albany Navigates/ Pathways to Health Street Outreach, Case Management at the Galvan Civic Motel, and Homeless and Housing Services in Columbia County.
Position Specifications:
- Ability to work: Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm w/ flexibility as needed.
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related field is required; Master’s Degree in Human Services or related field, preferred.
- A Clean and Valid New York State Driver’s License (actively licensed at least one year) is required.
- Staff in driving positions must be able to meet agency’s minimum requirements of our insurance policy for authorized drivers; including, but not limited to the minimum age of 21 at time of hire.
- Ability to work with clients with mental health issues, substance abuse and developmental disabilities.
- Certain deadlines and unanticipated developments may require flexibility to work during evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Experience coordinating a human services program and supervising staff.
- Experience delivering progressive discipline measures on an as needed basis.
- Experience working with children and adults with serious emotional and behavioral difficulties.
- Awareness of community resources pertinent to the program is preferred.
- Knowledge of child development, child abuse/neglect, and the social welfare system.
- Capable of exercising ethical, independent judgment and discretion; Handle sensitive data with strict confidentiality.
- Ability to work with various software systems (AWARDS, Concur, ADP, Microsoft Office, Gmail, etc.) in order to enter and retrieve client information; and knowledge of secure Internet practices.
- Capacity and openness to work with populations from culturally diverse and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including but not limited to a broad range of people with various developmental and functional levels.
- A professional record of integrity, proven reliability and dependability.
- Ability to pass background checks, including fingerprinting.
Duties & Responsibilities include:
- Lead business operations and strategic planning for Homeless and Housing Services.
- Set goals for departments in collaboration with individual managers.
- Collaborate with colleagues to implement policies and develop improvements.
- Organize and coordinate inter- and intra-departmental operations.
- Oversee resource allocation and budgeting for Homeless and Housing Services.
- Provide direct supervision for program leadership and evaluate performance, including payroll.
- Assume responsibility for timely reporting to regulatory agencies.
- Participate in agency activities (such as events, coalition and association meetings) as needed.
- Collaborate with the Executive Management Team to manage agency functioning so as to maintain a high-level of quality service to clients and collaterals.
- Participate periodically and as scheduled in Executive Management Team Meetings.
- Enhance and develop relationships with referring and community agencies for Homeless and Housing Services.

- L.E.A.D
- CARES
- Albany County Coalition for Homelessness
- Albany County Department of Social Services
- Albany County Department of Mental Health
- NYS OTDA
- NYS DOH
- Ensure agency strategic direction and program direction are effectively communicated to program staff.
- Collaborate with the Associate Executive Director for Quality Assurance to conduct periodic program-level monitoring of the quality of Homeless and Housing Services.
- Ensure that all staff strictly adhere to the agency’s confidentiality policy; while doing so oneself.
- Promote professional development of self and staff by attending and leading trainings and in-services (as needed).
- Serve on program and agency committees (as needed).
- Keep supervisor and administrators apprised of program events and critical situations.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
