TITLE: Local School Bookkeeper
JOB GOAL: To provide the routine bookkeeping and secretarial duties of the school under the direction of the principal
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Principal MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years’ experience in bookkeeping/accounting
- Previous successful experience in computerized accounting systems, preferred
- Good working knowledge of basic office procedures, use of technology, and common office equipment
- Good public relations skills
- Ability to use technology with proficiency in typing and bookkeeping
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
- Ability work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups
- Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
- Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic communications and able to use various technological devices/software

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates support for the school system, its purpose, direction, and
- Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and to prioritize tasks
- Maintains confidentiality of any Board of Education business, its staff, and its students.
- Demonstrates and models regular and predictable

- Maintains a complete and systematic set of financial records for the
- Records details of financial transactions in appropriate journals and subsidiary ledgers from such sources as requisitions, payroll records,
- Maintains accounts payable, accounts receivable and monthly financial statements.

- Reconciles monthly bank
- Assists in preparing annual school budget, including athletics and other school sponsored
- Oversees athletic ticket sales and maintains reconciliation reports for ticket
- Receives, counts, receipts, and posts all monies coming through the office for general account and special
- Assists local school principal with account balances and proper accounting protocols.
- Orders and maintains supplies for assigned
- Issues checks for approved purchases and other bills as directed by the principal.
- Collaborates with the Local School Accounting/Fixed Asset clerk with monthly audits.
- Summarizes and balances entries recorded in individual journals and ledgers and transfers data to general
- Traces errors and records adjustments to correct charges or credits posted to incorrect
- Maintains inventory and implements control
- Acts as support when secretary/receptionist is unable to fulfill
- Use school system-provided budgeting software and documents in accordance to directives provided by the
- Assists principal with personnel time/attendance software as
- Maintain financial files and prepares reports related to local school
- Maintains security of records and files, following federal, state, and local laws for record
- Assists teachers in financial planning for field trips as
- Assists with entering maintenance requests as
- Reports potential problems, unusual events or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory
- Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns, and/or complaints in a timely and positive
- Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate
- Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment and materials resources of the school
- Serves on school system committees, task forces, and representative groups as required.
- Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with board policies and procedures.

SALARY: Based on the St. Clair County School System Salary Schedule
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As established by the board and applicable state law.
