Job Description
This posting will be used to fill two positions.
The purpose of this position is to support, empower, and promote the success of SCTCC’s first-generation college students. This role focuses on fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment where all students feel valued, supported, and heard. Key responsibilities include assisting with new student onboarding, providing registration support, and connecting students with wraparound services that enhance their academic journey. This position also involves proactive outreach, monitoring student progress, promoting retention and completion, and developing engaging programs tailored to student needs. As an advocate for first-generation students, this role helps cultivate a sense of belonging by creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive space where students feel encouraged to express their needs and access the resources necessary for their success.
Salary Range: $25.29 - $36.71/ hour or $52,806 - $76,650/year
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of related experience in education, student development, psychology, sociology, counseling or a related field. Master’s degree may substitute for 18 months of related experience; Bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year of experience; Associates degree may substitute for six months of experience
- Experience supporting students in their academic journey, particularly in areas of transition and success.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive environment and supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, student development, psychology, sociology, counseling or a related field.
- Experience working with or a strong understanding of the challenges faced by first-generation college students.
- Ability to develop and lead engaging presentations and workshops effectively.
- Experience tracking and interpreting data relevant to their work and using that information for work and process improvement
- Experience developing and sustaining productive collaborative relationships with colleagues (faculty and staff) in support of student success
- Demonstrates the ability to build strong rapport, establish trust, and inspire joy and purpose in their work with students
- Fluency in Somali, Spanish, or French
Other Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
