What are we looking for?
We seek to find a focused, innovative, industrious junior accountant to join our growing team. As the Staff Accountant & AP Specialist, you will support the senior accountant to help streamline the company's financial processes. We would like to have a person-centered and proactive individual who works well under minimal supervision and provides excellent customer service to our internal and external vendors for all AP-related issues for account feeds and processes.
Your overall essential responsibilities will be the following:
· Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded.
· Process AP invoices using GAAP principles and completing check runs, electronic requests, file feeds, and wire payments.
· Assist in processing balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements according to legal and company financial guidelines.
· Assist with reviewing expenses, payroll records, etc.
· Immediately update financial data in databases to ensure that information is accurate.
· Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports.
· Assist senior accountants in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings.
· Inform vendors on accounting policies and procedures as needed.
· Assist with other accounting projects when needed.
- Serve as a secondary backup for payroll administration.
- Assists the Controller with the annual financial and the preparation of 403(b) plan statements.
- Prepare financial and 403(b) audit schedules and respond to requests during the audit.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

· Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, including v-lookups and pivot tables.
· Knowledge and familiarity with accounting and tax preparation software such as Sage 50 Accounting.
· The ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
· The ability to perform accurate work to the highest standards of accountancy.
· The ability to complete work according to company deadlines with little direct supervision.
· Driven, self-motivated, and goal oriented.
· Strong critical thinking and mathematical reasoning skills.
· Superior verbal communication skills.
Extra credit will be given if you have the following experience, education, and requirements:
· Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in accounting, business, finance, math, or a related field
All SJCS employees must:
· Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.
· Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.
Physical and environmental conditions include:
· Enter physical limitations and work environment needs, i.e., work requires no unusual demand for physical effort except the standard risks or discomforts, requiring special safety precautions for operating a motor vehicle.
· Travel, when necessary, less than 20%.
The hiring range for this position is $63,000 to $66,000, depending on location or experience.
