TITLE: Summer Academy Resident Assistant
REPORTS TO: Summer Academy Director
*DATES OF SERVICE: Monday, June 16 to Saturday, July 12, 2025
COMPENSATION: $15.00/hr for training hours; $2,150 stipend for the three weeks of Summer Academy.
DUTIES: The principal responsibilities of the Summer Academy Resident Assistants will involve the
supervision and mentorship of high school aged Summer Academy participants. Resident Assistants
exemplify the virtues of the St. John’s community; they will share life in the dormitories, lead
extra-curricular activities, and share their understanding of the program. Supported by college
staff, Summer Academy RAs are expected to uphold the rules of residence listed in the Student
Handbook, and to help establish civility, responsibility, and an ethic of mutual support among
their small groups.
Specific duties of Summer Academy Resident Assistants include, but are not limited to, the
following: upholding the rules of residence; supervising small groups; promoting communication
among students and between students and college staff; accompanying small groups on off-campus
excursions; facilitating on- campus recreational activities; preserving safety of students;
assisting with registrations and farewell ceremonies; other duties as assigned. Resident Assistants
will be expected to work flexible hours in the evenings and on the weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS: Open to current St. John’s students and graduating seniors in good standing at the
college. Demonstrated ability to represent the college with the highest degree of professionalism
at all times; punctual and responsible with strong communication and collaboration skills;
demonstrated judgment and common sense; ability to remain calm and effective under pressure;
maintain an awareness of evacuation routes and emergency procedures. Must be able to handle some
physical demands including lifting up to 30 pounds. An understanding of the structure of the
college and familiarity with the Summer Academy program is helpful.
