Purpose Statement
The Assistant Principal is dedicated to cultivating a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment through hands-on, ground level servant leadership. The Assistant Principal will assist the Principal, fellow Assistant Principal and the District Leadership Team to create, maintain and grow a school culture where everyone feels they belong and students are the center of every decision. In addition to leading the culture in Grades PK-3, this role emphasizes advancing social-emotional learning (SEL), strengthening positive behavior systems, and fostering collaborative relationships through effective communication with students, staff, and families to enhance overall success and well-being. The Assistant Principal also supports the implementation of Vermont’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and restorative practices to enhance overall success and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
School Culture and Climate
- Promote equity and culturally responsive practices to ensure all students receive the support needed to thrive.
- Support faculty and staff in creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
- Lead initiatives to maintain and enhance school culture
- Develop and implement systems to recognize and celebrate student and staff achievements.
- Be present in classrooms, hallways, drop off/dismissal, lunch/recess, events, etc. Community Engagement/Development
- Build partnerships with local organizations to provide wraparound services to support students and families.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between the school, families, and community partners.
Student Support and Discipline
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and families to support students’ social and emotional growth.
- Lead the Behavior Intervention Team (BIT)- Facilitate the team to provide strategies and interventions to support students’ behavioral and emotional needs.
- Develop systems to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEL and behavioral programs, using data to inform continuous improvement.
- Implement and oversee restorative practices to address student behavior, repair relationships, and build a positive school culture.
- Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of interventions, monitor behavioral trends, and guide decision-making.
Supervision and Evaluations
- Supervise faculty and staff in preschool through 3rd grade.
- Perform faculty and staff evaluations in accordance with the district procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
- Provide information, growth-oriented feedback to staff.
Operational Management
- Assist in managing schedules, resources, and school operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Oversee extracurricular and co-curricular programs, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and goals.
- Support the Principal in coordinating safety and crisis management procedures.
- Provide safety and compliance oversight ensuring safety and adherence to policies.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education or related field (preferred).
- Vermont Administrator License.
- Knowledge of Vermont’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and restorative practices.
- Proven ability to implement equity-driven strategies and culturally responsive practices.
- Experience with SEL frameworks and behavior management systems.

Physical mobility in all directions, lifting, carrying, walking, stair climbing and descending, physical presence, verbal communication, hearing, vision, and agility to move quickly and efficiently in emergency situations. Stamina to meet the physical demands of being an assistant principal centered around engagement with both small children and staff in a busy, dynamic school environment. While not extreme, the ability to stay active, alert, and responsive is important.

Salary will be based on education and experience.
Salary : $80,000 - $95,000
