Deputy Prosecutor – SVU
Felony Level 1 – 4
Full Time Position
Salary: $90,840
FLSA Status: Exempt
Oversee and manage criminal case files assigned by Prosecuting Attorney for the prosecution of family violence and special victim crimes in St. Joseph County, including the following duties:
Education and Professional Competence: J.D. and admission to practice before the Supreme Court of Indiana. Deputy must maintain good standing with the Indiana Supreme Court including maintaining a current status with Continuing Legal Education requirements and Disciplinary fees.
Essential Job Functions: Supervise and manage employees and equipment assigned by the Prosecuting Attorney for the prosecution of felony family violence, domestic violence, and special victim crimes such as sexual assaults and child molest charges. Maintain accurate records of all developments in assigned caseload including entering notes to files and/or computerized case management system.
Reviews pertinent decisions, policies, regulations, attend local and in house training seminars and otherwise remains current with developments in the law regarding pending cases to maintain a high professional standard of competency.
Depending upon experience in jurisdiction, may work occasional weekend day to ensure charges are completed within 48 hours of custodial hold. May also be required to perform as on-call prosecutor for local police agencies.
Work Attributes: Deputy must be able to work closely with fellow attorneys, paralegals, clerical personnel, and investigators. Position requires self-confidence and ability to speak competently to judges and jurors. Individual must be able to quickly evaluate and re-evaluate situations in give and take atmosphere of a courtroom.
Supervision: Deputy is required to supervise the work of the paralegals and support staff assigned to assist them in their duties.
Physical Demands: Position does not require any heavy, repetitive or overhead lifting. Position requires familiarity with normal office machines and computer skills.
Work Environment: Interior office environment in close proximity to other employees.
