St. Louis Public Library is seeking a Manager of Collection Development with leadership and management experience to join our team. Our ideal candidate is someone who is innovative and engaged to help us move forward with our primary mission as a progressive and customer-centered public library providing vital services to the people of St. Louis. The Manager of Collection Development is organized, innovative, enthusiastic, and understands the importance of collaboration. The role requires high-level decision-making in regards to selection, collection development and management, and materials workflow.
In this role you will:
- Assist in overseeing the daily workflow and operation of the Collection Management Services department, ensuring that materials are efficiently distributed to library locations.
- Manage staff, including hiring, training, assigning work, evaluation, and potential discipline.
- Motivate and coach staff to embrace change and efficiency.
- Develop productive working relationships with colleagues and vendors.
- Assist in the development of collection procedures, budgets, and strategic plans.
- Analyze various metrics to determine strategic priorities for the collection.
You will need to be:
- Friendly, outgoing, and able to build relationships at all levels.
- Strategic about engaging staff to meet and exceed department goals.
- Able to see the big picture and promote consistency and excellence of service.
- Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of staff and external colleagues.

You will need to have:
- A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university.
- At least 3 years of progressive experience in public libraries.
- One year of supervisory experience.
- Strong communication, writing, and speaking skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Experience in working in collection development preferred.

About downtown St. Louis:
This position will work in the heart of the St. Louis Public Library system in the library administration building. Located in Downtown West, the administration building is next door to the renowned Central Library, an architectural masterpiece designed by Cass Gilbert, and steps from all the shops, restaurants, and entertainment that downtown St. Louis has to offer.
