Landscape Maintenance/Exotic Plant Removal Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision performs a wide variety of landscape maintenance functions including the removal of exotic plant material from wetlands, wetland buffers, and preserves within the District.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains landscaping, turf grass, shrubbery, and trees including planting, watering, trimming, mowing, and edging.*
• Removes dead trees, exotic trees and plants using hand saws, chainsaws, and clippers.*
• Operates blower, hand tools, small power tools, and woodchipper.*
• Performs general maintenance on equipment and tools.*
• Receives and/or reviews verbal instructions and on the job training.*
• Operates vehicles and equipment.*
• Interacts and/or communicates with groups and individuals including the immediate supervisor, coworkers, and the public.*
• Inspects and cleans storm drains.*
• Assists with storm preparation and storm relief efforts.*
• Aids with various crews.*

Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

• Possession of a valid State of Florida driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of the methods, policies, and procedures of the Public Works Department as they pertain to the performance of the duties of the Landscape Maintenance/Exotic Plant Removal Technician.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to the job.
• Knowledge of basic grounds keeping practices.
• Ability to learn methods of maintaining equipment and tools.
• Ability to work constantly outside under adverse weather conditions of cold, heat, humidity, and rain.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
• Ability to Identify exotic trees, shrubs, grasses, and other vegetation.
• Ability to use hand tools such as shears, hoes, pruners, weed eaters, power edgers, small lawnmowers, chainsaws, and tree chippers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including rakes, power/hand tools, etc. Must be able to carry, lift or push articles weighing up to 50 lbs. Must wear personal protection equipment where required, such as hard hat/helmet, safety glasses, goggles, safety belt, safety shoes/boots, hearing protectors, safety harness, and gloves.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.72 - $27.79 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
