What are the responsibilities and job description for the Writer and Editor position at St. Olaf College?
Essential Job Duties:
Writing, Editing, Proofreading, and Content Development
- Write stories that highlight the people, programs, and places that make up the fabric of the St. Olaf community.
- Write and edit short-form content for our weekly employee and student newsletters.
- Proofread news stories, press releases, social posts, new and existing web pages, and other copy for grammar, style, and consistency. Ensure that all content is in the college's brand voice, style, and tone.
- Review and edit copy for internal and external stakeholders to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to college editorial standards.
- Develop and maintain editorial calendars for campus-wide and targeted communications in partnership with other departments, offices, and college leaders.
- Oversee a team of student writers who assist with stories and content. Provide mentorship and edit their work.
- In collaboration with the Director of Editorial and Director of Public Relations, help ensure that internal and external communication strategies and messages are aligned.
- Work with appropriate campus partners to facilitate the distribution of content for parents, faculty, staff, and students through newsletters or news digests.
- Manage the utilization and optimization of our e-newsletters. Provide analytics and recommendations to increase engagement with content.
- Consistently develop, review, and refine content through an unbiased lens and apply established best practices and standards for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Collaborate on key college projects and initiatives as assigned.
College Calendar
- Oversee the public-facing College Calendar, including working with campus partners to draft, edit, and publish events.
- Collaborate with the Events Team and campus partners to ensure information is accurate and updated as needed.
- Partner with the Social Media Strategist and Director of Editorial on promoting events.
Email Management
- Monitor the Marketing and Communications and newsletter inboxes.
- Respond to and manage requests for the college and forward to colleagues as appropriate.
Build and maintain strong partnerships with colleagues across campus, as well as alumni, parents, and friends of the college.
Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary : $45,000 - $50,000
