The Director of Teaching and Learning at St. Paul City School leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the PreK-12 instructional program. This role requires expertise in curriculum alignment, instructional practices, professional development, and teacher coaching. The Director will ensure that teaching and learning reflect the school’s trauma-informed, anti-racist, and restorative approaches while fostering academic excellence and community engagement.
This is a 12-month position reporting to the Executive Director. A valid Minnesota teaching license is required.
Core Responsibilities: Instructional Leadership & Curriculum Development
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the PreK-12 curriculum, ensuring alignment with Minnesota Academic Standards.
- Facilitate the integration of trauma-informed and anti-racist pedagogical approaches across all content areas.
- Oversee the revision and evaluation of curricular resources, ensuring they meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Support elective programming (Art, Music, Spanish, Gym, Media) and high school course offerings in alignment with teacher licensure and student needs.
- Provide leadership in the Science of Reading.
Professional Development & Teacher Growth
- Design, implement, and assess professional development programs for licensed teachers, instructional coaches, and staff.
- Lead Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and facilitate collaboration among teachers and grade levels.
- Support the Q-Comp program, overseeing mentor teacher initiatives, peer observations, and PLC leads.
- Conduct classroom observations and learning walks, providing instructional coaching and modeling best practices.
- Coordinate new teacher onboarding, including training in literacy, math, and classroom management programs.
Data-Driven Decision Making
- Serve as the District Assessment Coordinator, managing all state-mandated assessments, data collection, and reporting.
- Analyze assessment data to inform instructional strategies and interventions.
- Monitor and report on the Read Well by Third Grade Plan.
Program Oversight & School Operations
- Lead the PreK program, ensuring compliance with VPK and Parent Aware requirements.
- Support staffing processes, assisting in candidate interviews and hiring decisions in collaboration with principals.
- Manage instructional material procurement and curriculum inventories.
- Provide leadership for the Multilingual (ML) program, including ML staff
- Lead the MTSS model development and ensure that SPCS implements a tiered response model.
- Participate in Student Intervention Team and IEP meetings as an administrative representative.
Community & School Engagement:
- Collaborate with families and community partners to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Represent the school at family events and facilitate parent education initiatives related to curriculum and instruction.
- Advocate for equitable and inclusive instructional practices that reflect the school’s commitment to anti-racism and restorative justice.
Qualifications:
- Deep knowledge of trauma-informed practices, culturally responsive teaching, and restorative approaches.
- Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and teacher professional development.
- Strong ability to analyze data to drive instructional decisions.
- Effective communicator and collaborator with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners.
- Experience formally or informally coaching teachers and/or other staff.
License and Experience:
- Minnesota teaching license required
- Administrative license preferred
- Experience in leadership roles preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
