Overview
The Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction is responsible for ensuring the continued growth of faculty and supports the fidelity of instructional and grading practices on campus. Additionally, the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction helps to guarantee that classroom learning aligns with state standards and benchmarks, and that the resources utilized are offering chances for deeper depth of knowledge. This key role helps to create and sustain a culture of high expectations and continual support for all teachers and students.

Responsibilities
Academic Programming
- Plan and prepare curriculum and course offerings, working with the Principal and department heads to review and revise curriculum and offerings annually.
- Guide and lead the student course selection process in collaboration with the Principal and AP of Student Support to assist students and families regarding course selection concerns.
- Analyze needs for sections, teaching assignments, and classroom assignments for master schedule development in collaboration with the Principal and ensure needs are addressed.
- Prepare and implement a master course schedule and classroom assignments in collaboration with the Principal and maintain class information and grading within the student management system.
- Collect/share data on schoolwide trends in collaboration with the AP of Student Support and Principal.
- Manage the summer school academic courses, working with the Principal and AP of Student Support on courses to provide and selection of instructors.

Manage, maintain, update and revise key curricular resource documents in a timely fashion by working with the Principal and department heads, vendors (textbook company) and other stakeholders and provide effective communications about the process and the results including:
- The Course Catalog.
- The list of adopted textbooks.
- Course syllabi, unit plans, and exams.

Manage and monitor grade reporting for mid-quarter progress, quarter, and semester report cards with responsibility to:
- Create and communicate a calendar of instructional and grade reporting dates in collaboration with the Principal.
- Facilitate the administration and reporting of grades for semester and of year assessments.
- Follow up with teachers on approved “incompletes” to ensure timely resolution.
- Verify grade entry in a timely manner.
- Release reports to students and families.
Instructional Support
- Document and communicate clear expectations and standards for academic success.
- Serve as a regular presence in classrooms, informally and formally observing and following up with faculty to support a positive learning environment, engaging learning opportunities, and high expectations for student work and outcomes.
- Collaborate with academic staff to support the sharing of best practices and cultivation of academic growth and a results-oriented culture.
- Work with students, parents, and teachers to mediate conversations about learning and teaching, as needed.
- Collaborate with academic staff on the successful execution, measurement, and achievement of instructional goals.
- Celebrate growth of instructional practices while continuing to support and guide teachers to keep growing.
- Analyze instruction and assessment data to inform academic decisions, professional development, and teacher coaching to meet students’ needs and academic goals.
- Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement and provide feedback to teachers through instructional coaching.
- Support teachers by helping with the - strategic how of teaching - share multiple instructional strategies/processes with teachers during planning times.
- Lead Department Chairs in building routines to promote a culture of continuous improvement
- Collaborate with academic staff in the planning of professional development to invest in teacher growth and ensure best instruction and assessment practices across all classrooms.
- Provide ongoing professional development aligned to best practices and schoolwide needs.
- Collaborate with the Student Support Team on teacher implementation of student intervention systems of support/challenge.
- Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
- Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
Administrative Functions
- Facilitate training and support of department chairs; meet regularly with each chair.
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of highly effective teachers.
- Collaborate with the Executive Assistant to the Principal in the onboarding of substitutes and management of class coverage.
- Work with the enrollment and administrative teams to coordinate the admission, placement and orientation of students, making acceptance recommendations to the Principal.
- Lead accreditation processes that may be undertaken in collaboration with the Principal.
- Oversee and evaluate faculty and department chairs in collaboration with the Principal.
- Conduct professional development for faculty on learning differences, wellness related topics, and/or appropriate student accommodations.
- Organize and manage parent-teacher conferences and Follow the Schedule.
- Generate and maintain the tutorial schedule.
- Facilitate NWEA MAP testing initiatives and data analysis.
- Participate in other roles related to being a part of the school community, including attending class retreats and student activities.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by school leadership.
Qualifications and Experience
- Commitment to embrace the Catholic Mission and Dominican Charism at St. Pius X High School.
- Completion of Safe Haven environment training.
- Master’s degree or higher in Education or substantial equivalent and meet licensure and credentialing requirements.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other basic technology needed to enhance the learning experience and effectively communicate.
- Minimum of three years supervisory experience as a department head or higher administrative position.
- Experience with reaccreditation and self-study through Cognia or similar accrediting organization preferred.
- Professional attitude and appearance.
- Strong interpersonal skills in relating to multiple audiences, including students, parents, and educators with grace, competence, and warmth.
