St Raymond’s Cemetery is one of the largest Catholic Parish cemeteries. Established in 1845, we service the needs of many families within our neighborhood and communities in the Bronx / Westchester Counties. The Cemetery is seeking a skilled and experienced Backhoe Operator to join our team. As a Backhoe Operator, you will play a crucial role in the maintenance and development of our cemetery grounds. This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with Local 813 Teamsters and requires a valid CDL license. The Union provides all medical benefits.

Job Description

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate Backhoe: Safely and efficiently operate a backhoe to excavate and fill graves, construct burial vaults, and perform earthmoving tasks on cemetery grounds.
• Ground Maintenance: Assist in general cemetery maintenance, such as grave preparation, landscaping, and road maintenance as needed.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations to ensure the well-being of yourself, colleagues, and visitors.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and maintenance on the backhoe to ensure its proper functioning and report any issues promptly to supervisor.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with fellow team members, including groundskeepers, maintenance staff, and administration, to ensure smooth operations and the highest standards of service and safety.
• Union Compliance: Adhere to the terms and conditions of the current collective bargaining agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS

• CDL License: Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a requirement.
• Backhoe Operation: Proven experience in operating a backhoe efficiently and safely.
• Union Affiliation: Understanding of and commitment to the provisions outlined in the current collective bargaining agreement.
• Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting and prolonged outdoor work in various weather conditions.
• Safety Awareness: Exceptional knowledge of safety protocols and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
• Reliability: Punctuality and reliability are essential for the successful execution of this role.
• Knowledge of Catholic traditions and practices preferred but not required.

COVID-19 considerations:
Management requires testing of all new hires for Covid-19 prior to engaging in the workplace environment.
Management can schedule and conduct interviews virtually. When applicable, during work hours management requires protective face coverings always worn, routine sanitizing inside and outside of the workplace, limited gatherings of people while in the workplace, and always maintaining guidelines for social distance.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Drug Testing will be required during Onboarding process and on a random rotating scheduled after employment.
