POSITION SUMMARY
Prepare and/or be an instrumental part of an estimating team for cost estimates of heavy civil, transit, and transportation construction projects ranging from $1 million to $1 billion plus including all essential elements and steps necessary for a successful bid; receiving and reviewing bid documents; assigning and assuming responsibilities for estimate assembly; from Bid Package to Bid and beyond as needed for effective and efficient project start up on awarded projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Leading and/or working as part of a Team in a coordinated effort
- Organization and review of plans and specifications
- Preparation of cost estimates for both hard-money and proposal bidding, utilizing Estimating Software (currently HCSS), analyzing, and establishing means, methods, production rates, and schedules.
- Presentation of cost estimates/proposals before in-house management, joint venture partners
- Training of Junior Estimators
- Coordination with other Estimators and Consultants
- Quantity Take-offs from plans utilizing various means, such as scaling, Agtek and Bluebeam
- Preparation of sketches, illustrations, and composites for use in estimate preparation and review.
- Preparation of Sub/Supplier quotation request packages, communication with Subs/Suppliers, and collection and review of quotations
- Estimate close-out including Sub/Supplier Quote Comparisons
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- 10 years of construction experience or equivalent combinations of technical training and construction experience required.
- 5 years Civil exposure required in either project management or estimating.
- Rail or transit experience required.
- Civil Engineering or Construction Management Degree (preferred)
- Knowledge of plan reading and interpretation, take-off, proficiency in MS-Excel software, construction means, methods, and productions, scheduling, and common sense are a must.
- Knowledge of MS-Word, P-6 Scheduling, Agtek, Bluebeam, and/or HCSS software are pluses.
- Ideally will have worked in Field Engineer or Superintendent position(s) with Heavy Civil, Transit, and Transportation projects
- Must be able to navigate uneven terrain for pre-bid site investigations.
- 10% travel capability required.
