What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Studies / Academic Manager – Summer School 2025 (Residential) position at Stafford House Summer?

We’re an English Language school hosted by our state-of-the-art CATS Academy Boston high school located in Braintree, MA. Our Study Holidays welcome groups of young students from overseas, usually for periods of 7-14 days at a time. During their stay, they’re immersed in learning with a fun and dynamic academic and activity program.
Our employment dates run from 05/21/25 – 08/08/25.
Here are some of the duties you’ll be involved in:
- Managing the academic program and the teaching team to ensure that students and teachers alike gain the most from their time with us
- Responsible for teaching resources and high-quality delivery of lessons
- Ensuring academic lessons and activities are integrated to promote the best learning experience for our students. This includes organizing schedules for teachers who are involved in the activities program
- Holding weekly staff meetings and conducting weekly staff development seminars
- Observing, appraising, and giving feedback on teaching performance in a supportive, effective manner. We’re proud to champion staff development here at Stafford House
- Participating in pastoral duties with our students and managing their general wellbeing
- Some overnight residential duties form part of this role
- Actively support fellow management colleagues, i.e., center director, activities manager, and residential life manager, to ensure the effective running of the center, and where needed, teach if required to cover the absence.
- Be responsible for answering student emergency phones during off-hours if necessary. This duty is rotated amongst the management team.
- Working 6 days per week - as part of the management team, this is a fully immersive position

Some of what you’ll need to join us over the summer as Director of Studies:
- Proven successful experience in teaching, with over 3 years of full time EFL experience
- You must have a TESOL certification or equivalent
- Educated to degree level
- Be a great communicator, experienced in working with and supervising young people
- Good attention to detail and a real team player with fantastic customer skills
- We are unable to offer sponsorship therefore you must be legally able to work in the United States
