HEAD TEACHER – ELEMENTARY SCHOOL K-3

SUMMER 2025

GENERAL STATEMENT:

Summer School 2025 will focus on the elements of heart, mind, and body for elementary school students. The Summer School Head Teacher for Elementary will assist in planning, staffing, implementing and assessing the Summer School Success Program for grades K-3. This position is available pending operating budget and grant funding approval.

Note: Preference will be given to those who hold an 092 certification.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Commitment to work all 4 weeks of summer school.
  • Work to ensure effective implementation of Summer School.
  • Work with the Teaching and Learning Department to design and implement professional development.
  • Attend all professional development activities provided by the Central Office.
  • Attend Central Office meetings.
  • Develop and distribute Summer School information and instructional materials.
  • Assist in completing class assignments.
  • Assist in the selection and assignment of staff.
  • Use Google to utilize electronic mail (e-mail) to transmit all staff attendance on a weekly basis to the Central Office as well as other information as requested.
  • Implement the Dayforce attendance system on-site(s) for all staff.
  • Coordinate the use of the selected site.
  • Cooperatively work with school staff and community resource groups.
  • Assist in selecting, ordering and preparing resources used in the Summer School Program at the assigned site.
  • Provide professional development ot summer school staff prior to the start of summer school
  • Collect, monitor and submit all student registrations for his/her home-base school.
  • Provide behavior management and any behavioral interventions.
  • Work with students, parents and teachers to create a culture of high expectations and excellence, including: regular attendance, punctuality, academic and emotional support at home and at school, and regular attendance at meetings and extracurricular activities as a means to help ensure the success of students.
  • Develop incentives for students to meet and exceed standards of excellence.
  • Monitor and oversee the day-to-day operations including transportation issues of the Summer School Program at the assigned sites.
  • Submit a written assessment of the summer school program at the assigned site.
  • Ensure completion of any required assessments.
  • Provide instructional leadership to ensure that differentiated instruction is occurring in each classroom.
  • Ensure continuous overall improvement of the program, site, and staff.
  • Regularly communicate with the Teaching and Learning Department.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Teaching and Learning Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Connecticut Educator Certificate.
  • 092 Certificate preferred.
  • Currently employed by the Stamford Public Schools.
  • Successful teaching experience in elementary school.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum and program planning and development as well as curriculum/assessment development.
  • Familiarity with national, state and local curriculum standards and framework.
  • Demonstrated quality leadership ability through past performance.
  • Service as a cooperating or mentor teacher preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in the coordination and implementation of extended school hours programs preferred.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work well with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and organize programs and required reports.
  • Superior communication skills (oral and written).
  • Evidence of organizational ability and ability to successfully complete projects.
  • Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, Power School); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.

Sites are subject to change due to unexpected circumstances

TERM:

  • Monday, June 30th through Friday, July 25th, 2025 (19 days; tentative dates subject to change)
    • No class July 4th
  • Planning/Staff Development- June 26th & June 27th
  • Up to 30 hours of work prior to summer school
  • Up to 15 hours of work following the end of summer school

SALARY

Compensation Is As Per SEA Teachers Contract.
