An employee in this class collects payments for taxes, calculates and notifies property owners of taxes owed, enters tax payments into a computerized database, and prepares a variety of financial and tax-related records. Accuracy is required in making calculations, handling money, and entering data into the computer. Some independent judgment and initiative must be exercised within the limits of prescribed policies. Tact and courtesy are essential. Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated by observation, use of records, and periodic post-audits. Starting Salary: $36,715 or DOQ
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Collects current and delinquent taxes; figures discounts, penalties, and interest; posts payments to a computer system; prepares and issues receipts.Processes tax payments received by mail and mail receipts and notifies taxpayers of discrepancies by mail or phone.Balances collection with records daily.Compares employee lists against delinquent files for garnishment purposes.Assisted lawyers, real estate agents, and others in searching tax records, maps, and other documents; made copies.Answers the public’s questions on property valuations, tax bills, and other records.Updates cross reference files for delinquent taxes.Performs clerical work such as typing reports, preparing and copying forms, and answering the telephone.Prepares a variety of reports on taxes, refunds, releases, and others requested by supervisors.Makes copies of forms, records, and other information, as requested.Prepares and mails delinquent notices for real property taxes and vehicle taxes.Prepares and makes bank deposits.Certifies building permits for no taxes owed.Makes payment adjustments for releases and refunds.Collects motor vehicle taxes and delinquent fees.Performs related duties as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Graduation from high school and considerable work experience in handling money, such as cashiering or accounting clerk and working with the public, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
