Paralegal / Legal Assistant I
The position is for the Civil Division of the United States Attorney’s Office. Experience in Civil procedures preferred.
Job Description/Duties:
- Serves as a Paralegal / Legal Assistant I with responsibility for typing, receiving and providing information of a sensitive and legal technical nature to visitors and telephone callers, maintaining files, etc.
- Prepares a variety of legal documents such as notices, motions, orders, stipulations, writs, subpoena, and judgments on default, declarations, complaints and processes of service.
- Serves as the principal clerical and administrative support person for the assigned assistant US attorneys by carrying out and coordinating all legal clerical and day-to-day administrative support activities.
- Maintains a calendar of all assigned active cases, which includes keeping track of filings, hearings, trial dates, and scheduling conferences and interviews.
- Supervises contractor personnel and provides assistance in such areas as payroll, vacation, benefits, and disciplinary actions.
- Requires a minimum of 2 years of legal secretarial experience. Although higher education May be substituted for some of the experience.
