The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Southcoast Region Design & Engineering Services is looking for an Engineering Assistant 1/2/3 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
Engineering Assistant 1: $33.42 / hourly (OT Eligible)
Engineering Assistant 2: $38.51 / hourly (OT Eligible)
Engineering Assistant 3: $44.03 / hourly (OT Eligible)
What you will be doing:
Engineering Assistant 1
Work will consist of performing entry/trainee level engineering tasks under the direct and often detailed supervision of a lead designer or the engineering manager. The tasks will include assisting with the preparation of engineering studies, development of various details and portions of projects, and assisting with the preparation of contract documents (Engineering calculations, Plans, Specifications and Estimates).
Engineering Assistant 2
Under the supervision of a higher-level engineer or engineering assistant, perform design engineering duties for capital improvement projects. Work includes assisting in the research, development and final production of project plans, specifications, estimates and other engineering documents.
Engineering Assistant 3
Under the general direction of a registered professional engineer, perform journey level design engineering duties for capital improvement projects. Work includes research, development, and final production of project plans, specifications, estimates, and other engineering documents. Typically, this position is the lead for mid-level projects and assists higher level engineers with more complex projects.

Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution accredited by ABET.
Or:
A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution not accredited by ABET.
AND
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination.
Special Note:
An applicant who will obtain within nine months a bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by ABET, with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying, will qualify to apply. An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon completion of the degree requirement within nine months, and may begin work AFTER obtaining and showing proof of the required degree.
Engineering-In-Training or Flex Engineering Assistant 1/Engineering Assistant 2 positions will be identified by the employing department.
Engineering Assistant 2
Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.
AND
One year of entry level engineering, architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Or:
A bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution not accredited by ABET.
AND
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination.
AND
One year of entry level engineering, architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Or:
Five years of progressively responsible subprofessional engineering experience of which two years was as a Journey level Engineering Technician or Drafting Technician 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitution:
Graduate study in engineering and/or architecture may be substituted for the required experience as an Engineering Assistant 1. (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month of experience).
Special Note:
The employing department will identify Engineering-In-Training (EIT) positions.
Transcripts which indicate the credit hours earned for the specific coursework may be requested at the time of interview or prior.
Engineering Assistant 3
Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET.
AND
Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Or:
A bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited by ABET.
AND
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
AND
Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitutions:
Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree.
Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month).

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Engineering Assistant 1, Engineering Assistant 2 or Engineering Assistant 3 Level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1 or 2, promotion to the Level 2 or 3 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
