Job Summary
The Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA), Division of Business and Finance (DBF) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Accounting Supervisor to lead a team responsible for the critical financial operations of the Health Insurance Trust Fund and the Risk Management Division. This role involves direct supervision of accounting staff, including training, work assignment, and quality control, ensuring accurate and timely completion of financial transactions and reporting. The Accounting Supervisor will provide technical guidance, resolve complex problems, and coach staff to enhance their problem-solving skills. They will also establish and maintain work standards, policies, and procedures, incorporating the Arizona Management System (AMS) to drive continuous improvement. This position requires a proactive individual who can effectively manage workflows, document processes, and contribute to the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations within the DBF.

Job Duties
- Direct, instruct and coordinate work of accounting personnel, providing technical instruction
- Resolving problems that require considerable judgment and creative effort. Coach subordinate staff on problem solving
- Review and inspect work in progress and direct accounting staff in regards to work product
- Confers with manager or other upline personnel for instruction and guidance
- Establishes and maintains work standards, policy and operating procedures, methods, rules and metrics for work unit including the application of the Arizona Management System (AMS)
- Ensures financial transactions and financial reporting within responsible work group are completed accurately and timely
- Comprehend and document complex workflows and suggest improvements in accordance with AMS
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- The principles, concepts, practices, methods, and techniques of government accounting
- Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of automated accounting systems
- Extensive knowledge of reference materials such as federal regulations, Arizona Revised Statutes, applicable agency manuals, and policies and procedures
- Management and leadership techniques
- Internal controls
- Accounts receivable and collections, accounts payable
- Spreadsheet, word processing, and database software
- Advanced communication skills (oral and written)
- Advanced interpersonal skills
- Group facilitation skills
- Substantial skill in work organization and accomplishment
- Significant skills in analysis, interpretation, and communication of financial data
- Considerable skill in techniques required to analyze and maintain accounting records through automated accounting systems and benefit payment records through automated payroll/personnel systems
- Analysis of work flow, process improvement, and problem-solving
- Management techniques to direct, train, delegate, evaluate, and coach
- Public speaking ability
- Effectively communicate with a diverse group of people in a professional and respectful manner
- Manage time and prioritize workload of self and staff
- Experience with government accounting is preferred
- Advanced degree in accounting or finance is preferred
- One year experience as an Accounting Supervisor is preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or a closely related field required
- Background and reference check, including a criminal records verification
