- Manages day-to-day IT operations for the Bureau of Departmental Information Systems and answers directly to the agency's Chief Information Officer (CIO). Measures impact of integrating new information systems into existing applications. Advises on all policies and procedures relating to systems development, implementation, and modification. Applies management principles and systems analysis techniques to develop new systems and to improve new systems. Directs the design, installation and maintenance of the agency’s communications network, infrastructure, end user support, and application development. Directs the development of technical documentation. Provides the standards for and approval of that documentation. Plans and coordinates the selection, purchase and installation of system software. Develops procedures to generate, test and install software. Coordinates required documentation for system software and fixes. Coordinates activities and vendor support personnel. Interfaces with vendor software support personnel in resolving problems, acquiring software, etc. Directs the development and application of standards of measure for the workload/capacity for the data center. Monitors that capacity for performance, required upgrades and effects of additional applications. Directs and coordinates the training of technical staff. Researches and advises on new hardware acquisitions.
- Plans, organizes, identifies resources, directs, and controls functions within the Bureau of Departmental Information Systems. Evaluates the work of the direct reports within the Bureau.
- Devises policies and procedures to provide effective and efficient user services. Devises standards to provide definition of responsibilities, data base systems and user manual specifications. Recommends hardware configurations of computer or data entry equipment, works with vendor personnel for various computer and communication products. Provides details and approvals for formal and informal public/private procurements.
- Provides information and documentation to the DOS Chief Information Officer to facilitate decision making regarding the Department's IT services.
- Performs other work related duties as required.
