PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Schedule outpatient diagnostic tests and referrals as ordered.
- Knowledge of insurance carrier requirements.
- Organize/Provide necessary information to obtain necessary authorizations or precertification from insurance carriers.
- Notify patients of scheduled appointments and document their acknowledgment.
- Counsel patients regarding special preparation for procedures and answer questions.
- Contact insurance payers daily: Medicare, BlueCross BlueShield, and others.
- Review claim denials and appeal when justified.
- Verify the accuracy of coding.
- Compile and prepare reports.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
One year of general clerical experience, preferably in a medical office setting. Word processing and computer experience. Familiarity with local insurance policies and their referral requirements.
