Position Overview

The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Forensic Services (DFS) is seeking a motivated individual to fill a Public Service Administrator position. This individual will be the Chief of Staff of the DFS Deputy Director’s Office. This leader will provide direct supervision to the division’s administrative support staff; oversee division level and agency-level projects; and coordinate responses for a variety of requests about departmental policies, administrative plans, and legislative proposals. The ideal candidate should be efficient, organized and a good communicator. This position will work with various staff in the Deputy Director’s office and serves as liaison to the forensic science laboratories, other divisions, other state agencies, and criminal justice agencies. The State of Illinois continually strives for a workforce that reflects the growing diversity within the State. Essential Functions

  • Assists the Deputy Director and immediate management staff in administrative and coordination of division programs.
  • Independently performs major, specialized administrative tasks.
  • Serves as Division of Forensic Services liaison and coordinator for internal and external programs.
  • Serves as an administrative support staff supervisor.
  • Serves as back up to Division of Forensic Services Freedom of Information (FOIA) Coordinator.
  • Performs special projects which may require contact with other agencies and department entities to collect information and data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonable in the scope of the duties enumerated above.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher with coursework in Public Administration or Business.
  • At least four years of experience reading, interpreting, analyzing, and implementing agency practices to ensure compliance with departmental codes, division policies, relevant collective bargaining agreements, or similar compliance rules and regulations.
  • At least four years of knowledge in agency policies, procedures, and labor / employment processes.
  • At least three years of knowledge in the principles and practices of public and business administration.
  • At least three years of experience with developing, installing, and evaluating new and revised methods, procedures, and performance standards for departmental programs.
  • At least three years of experience with analyzing administrative problems and adopting an effective course of action.
  • At least three years of experience in compiling and preparing administrative reports and records.
  • At least three years of experience in estimating and budgeting for future needs and the cost of personnel, space, equipment, supplies, and services.
  • At least two years of experience supervising subordinate staff and providing for their professional development.
  • At least three years of experience in stablishing and maintaining satisfactory working relationships with subordinates and / or co-workers
  • Conditions of Employment

  • Successful completion of initial and on-going, random, alcohol and drug screens
  • Successful completion of a background investigation
  • Successful completion of a polygraph examination
  • Ability to travel on an as-needed basis
  • No felony or misdemeanor convictions
