MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in using geographic information systems, using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR
Twelve semester hours in GIS, in a geospatial science, or in computer science plus two years of experience in using geographic information systems, using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography.
To perform geographic mapping services in support of a GIS program or project.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Entry.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct from a GIS Supervisor. May receive supervision from higher-level personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
LOCATION OF WORK:
May be used by all state agencies.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from GIS Analyst 2 by the absence of independent GIS analysis work of moderate complexity.EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.
Learns to utilize GIS software to perform modeling and data manipulation that may require qualitative or quantitative data analysis.
Learns to define output parameters by loading data, graphics, and geography into a database or system.
Learns to create and maintain metadata, which is critical technical information required for all GIS mapping.
Enters and verifies GIS data by manual and heads-up digitizing.
Assists with performing spatial analyses by using appropriate GIS application tools and commands.
Assists in the production of data layers or features for mapping, including the incorporation of aerial photography to produce special purpose maps, GIS statistics and results of modeling on a variety of computers and with a variety of software.
Assists with gathering, compiling, manipulating and storing spatial and non-spatial data.
May assist in field work for GIS projects, including aerial photo interpretation and remote sensing image classification.
Receives training in the use of satellite receivers and other technical GIS equipment.
Receives training in the conversion of GPS data to GIS data.
