Introduction
The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (“System”). The System is a defined benefit retirement system covering governmental employees within the State of Maryland. The System is composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with over 50 different rule sets. The System has over 397,000 participants (customers), including 192,000 members who are actively employed and participating in the System, 165,000 payees who receive a monthly payment from the System, and 40,000 vested members who are no longer actively employed but have earned a benefit that will become payable at a future date. The Agency is seeking to fill an Administrative Officer II to add to its Benefits Processing Unit. During the probationary period, this position will work 100% at the office of the Maryland State Retirement Agency. After the probationary/training period, and at the discretion of the Unit Director, this position may be eligible to telework one day per week.

Main Purpose of Job
The primary responsibilities include preparation and review of various retirement application and retirement estimate worksheets, preparation of estimate and retirement application batches for submission to data entry, tracking retirement estimates and applications received via MS Access, preparing correspondence to return deficient forms and to inform retirees of benefit changes and assisting with mailing of estimates. Timely and accurate processing of transactions related to these processes are essential elements in aiding the Agency in meeting the objective of our “Mission Statement” which is to effectively communicate to participants and employers’ information about benefits provided by the system.
POSITION DUTIES
The Administrative Officer II position works as part of the Benefits Processing Unit in the Benefits�Administration Division. This position is primarily responsible for processing member requests for�estimates of their monthly retirement benefits, handling member requests to retire and begin�receiving their monthly payments.� Responsibilities Include:� Preparing and reviewing estimate applications and retirement applications submitted by members to ensure that they are properly completed.� Reviewing member accounts to determine if they are eligible to retire at their selected estimated retirement date or actual retirement date.� Determining if the balances of service credit and member contributions are correct on the member’s account.� Calculating the member’s average final compensation.� Calculating additional service credit to be projected or awarded at retirement; and� Entering and batching information from applications and worksheets to create estimates and new retirement accounts.� Utilizing the Customer Relationship Management (“CRM”) application to process cases and tasks.� The incumbent should possess the following skills to be successful in this role:� Excellent attention to detail. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:���Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: Two years of administrative staff or professional work. Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute 30�credit hours from an accredited college or university for�one�year of the required experience. 2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree�from a college or university for the required experience. 3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included�regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required�experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least one year of experience in using Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook) At least one year of experience in requests for estimates of retirement benefits, applications for retirement applications, and salary audit cases in a Customer Relationship Management software (CRM)

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
