Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Labor is looking for a temporary Maintenance Specialist to work with the Maintenance Manager to ensure all building related systems are functioning properly. This position will work independently to schedule and conduct routine maintenance on all systems, work with contractors as needed on significant repairs or installations, relocation of staff as needed, and basic electrical and plumbing work.
Examples of Work
- Oversight and routine maintenance of building environmental controls. Operating and maintaining computerized controls/systems. Conducts routine tests and inspections. Replacement of parts as necessary.
- Ongoing maintenance, changes, routing of basic electrical, following blueprints, specifications, layouts. Replacement of parts as necessary.
- Plumbing work/repairs to sinks, bathrooms, toilets, facilities. Ordering and replacement of parts.
- Works with Manager to identify supplies, tools, materials for purchase, as well as storage and proper maintenance. Develop time & cost estimates of materials and supplies needed.
- Coordinates vendor/contractor maintenance of systems such as fire, environmental, plumbing, electrical.
- Groundskeeping duties such as lawn care, landscaping, snow removal.
- Minor construction and repairs to buildings, walls, floors, stairs, walkways, outdoor areas.
- Weekend/on-call duty may be necessary.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade. Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with building construction, maintenance, plumbing, electrical, hvac.
Knowledge, skills, abilities
Knowledge of: standard use, maintenance and safety practices associated with hand tools, power tools and light to heavy machinery; computer building control systems and software; plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems; fire codes and fire prevention regulations and procedures.
Skill in: the use of hand tools, power tools and building maintenance equipment; basic office and computer skills including competency in the use of email, procurement and building system applications.
Ability to: communicate effectively, understand and follow instructions, perform skilled maintenance work in a variety of building and mechanical trades; troubleshoot and identify problems, determine materials and equipment necessary to install, repair and adjust building structures, systems and fixtures; maintain regular and reliable attendance; lift 25lbs.
