Job Description:
Under general supervision, the Retirement Specialist I counsels members of Nebraska’s retirement systems, calculates and estimates annuity benefits, prepares correspondence, and performs related administrative tasks.
Length of assignment: One year

- Process retirement applications and accompanying forms and documents.
- Validating accounts and calculating estimates.
- Informs members on retirement plans, benefits, and beneficiary options.
- Verify salary and service information with employers to ensure compliance with internal procedures.
- Prepare and send correspondence.
- Conduct research on member records to ensure accurate information.
- Respond to written and verbal inquiries.
- Organize and maintain records to facilitate efficient processing and compliance with established policies.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: One or more years of coursework, training, and/or experience in office support or secretarial functions, including typing responsibilities and one years experience as a Retirement Specialist Trainee or in a similar role involving benefit calculations and customer service related to retirement plans.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Maintain and ensure confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
- Understanding of office procedures and basic mathematical calculations.
- Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and composition for proofreading and correspondence.
- Ability to type at a minimum rate of 40 words per minute (net).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to have regular and punctual attendance to support deadline driven processing.
- Attention to detail and the ability to proofread and detect errors in documents.
- Ability to operate office equipment and maintain organized filing systems.
- Capability to work positively and professionally with the public and agency staff in a fast-paced environment.
