Criminal Forensic Scientists serve as specialists in an area of expertise/ scientific discipline and are responsible for identifying and analyzing physical evidence related to their specialization that is collected from criminal investigations.
Department of Public Safety Criminal Forensic Scientists support the New Mexico law enforcement community in the investigation of crimes by receiving and maintaining physical evidence custody; preparing reports that document their findings; provide expert opinions in their scientific specialization to investigators; and provide expert witness testimony regarding their findings in a court of law.

This position exists to provide critical high-level administrative support to the forensic laboratory's executive leadership team, enabling the Lab Director and Quality Assurance Director to focus on strategic decision-making and operational oversight. By managing complex schedules, coordinating essential communications, and overseeing administrative functions, the Executive Secretary and Administrative Assistant ensures the seamless operation of the laboratory, facilitates efficient information flow, and enhances productivity across departments.
Additionally, this role supports the laboratory's mission by maintaining organization, ensuring accurate documentation, and handling sensitive information with discretion, which ultimately contributes to the overall success and integrity of the laboratory's work.
How does it get done?
1. Executive Support and Scheduling: Manage complex calendars, coordinate meetings and conference calls,
arrange detailed travel itineraries, and handle expense tracking and reimbursements.
2. Document and Communication Management: Draft, proofread, and distribute documents, presentations, and
correspondence; serve as a liaison between executives and stakeholders to maintain professional
relationships.
3. Meeting and Event Coordination: Prepare agendas, document meetings, follow up on action items, and
organize lab events.
4. Research, Reporting, and Office Oversight: Conduct research, compile data for reports, maintain office
supplies, and ensure efficient office operations by maintaining organized workflows,
managing inventory and supplies, coordinating with vendors, and implementing process improvements to
optimize productivity and support the executive team's needs.

Forensic Laboratory staff, Law Enforcement Agencies, Criminal Justice Agencies, and New Mexico citizens.

Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years work experience in office administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Employment is subject to a national fingerprint-based record check before hire.
Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony-free, per Section 5. 12. 1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy.
Employment will be subject to pre-employment drug testing and random employment drug testing. Statewide travel will be required.
Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working Conditions
This position is performed primarily in a forensic laboratory setting, which may involve exposure to chemicals, biological fluids, and various laboratory equipment. The role may require statewide travel as needed. The position operates under strict deadlines, may need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, and involves frequent walking, standing, sitting, and bending.
Additionally, the role requires tolerance for moderate noise levels produced by laboratory instruments and equipment.
