Through strategic collaboration with state agencies, the legislative and judicial branches, and local public bodies, the Federal Grants Bureau helps maximize the impact of federal resources in New Mexico¿s infrastructure and community development initiatives. Why does the job exist?This role ensures that state agencies, local governments, tribal entities, grant writers, and other stakeholders effectively secure, manage, and comply with federal grant requirements, maximizing funding opportunities while maintaining oversight and compliance with 2 CFR 200. It supports the Federal Grants Bureau by developing grant management processes, overseeing financial tracking, audit preparation, and reporting, and ensuring DFA administers federal grants in alignment with statutory requirements and major federal initiatives like the American Rescue Plan Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. Additionally, it plays a key role in maintaining the Federal Grants Management System (FGMS) to track the full life cycle of federal grants while providing direct technical assistance, training, outreach, and guidance to state agencies, local governments, tribal entities, grant writers, and program administrators. Ultimately, this position strengthens New Mexico¿s ability to access and manage federal resources efficiently, ensuring funding is leveraged for critical infrastructure and community development projects. How does it get done?- Provide direct technical assistance and support to state agencies, local governments, tribal entities, and grant writers in preparing high-quality federal grant applications, ensuring they meet all necessary requirements and guidelines.- Offer expert guidance on aligning proposals with federal priorities, regulations, and funding opportunities, including major initiatives such as the American Rescue Plan Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act.- Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and resources to build capacity for effective grant writing and federal funds management among applicants.- Assist with navigating 2 CFR 200 compliance, providing support in the development of budget narratives, performance metrics, and other essential components of federal grant proposals.- Collaborate with other team members to ensure that all federal grants are properly tracked in the Federal Grants Management System (FGMS), and provide data entry support as needed.- Stay up to date on changes in federal funding opportunities and guidelines, disseminating relevant information to stakeholders to ensure timely application submissions.- Track the progress of grant applications and assist in the submission process, providing ongoing support to ensure deadlines are met and that the highest possible chance of funding success is achieved. Minimum QualificationBachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience program administration or project management in areas related to the purpose of the position. Any combination of education in a related field and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
