Why does the job exist?
The Health and Safety Consultant performs technical consultative services to private businesses and public-sector agencies in order to improve workplace health and safety and compliance with OSHA regulations and applicable state statutes.
How does it get done?
- Perform on-site health and safety consultation visits, presentations and trainings, technical assistance, and promotion of programs services
- Prepare timely and technically correct documentation, correspondence, written reports and case files
- Enter data and information into tracking and information systems
- Ensures established activity due dates are tracked, met, and all required documentation is maintained in records and files
Who are the customers?
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate would have extensive experience in the following :
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and five (5) years of work experience in public / environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and / or Water Resources. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Working conditions for this position include significant instate travel to conduct on-site consultative activities, which may include extended periods of standing and walking. This position includes some out of state travel to attend training and possible on-site activities. Working conditions also include extensive computer and cellphone usage and extended periods of times sitting. There is also possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, noise, extreme weather conditions and safety hazards associated with this job.
