Why does the job exist?
Position functions to provide HR support to assigned divisions/bureaus throughout Public Health Division in the areas of compensation, classification, benefits, payroll, recruitment and transactions processing. The position provides assistance with the interpretation of State Personnel Board Rules, PERA Rules, Department of Health policies and procedures, federal and state laws related to Human Resources such as Fair Labor Standards Act, Equal Pay Act, Age Discrimination Act, and Family Medical Leave Act. Independently works on benefits, classification, compensation, human resource management, training, labor relations and other human resource related issues. Demonstrates independent performance of all activities with considerable latitude to plan and organize daily work within established procedures. Responsible for management support service activities, not for a program activity.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in any field and one (1) year of experience in human resource operations; recruitment, selection, payroll, compensation and benefits administration, labor relations, investigations, HR related training experience, andor occupational analysis. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field andor direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Possible exposure to irate clientele. Some statewide travel may be required. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. Must have own mode of transportation for work-related travel.
