Why does the job exist?
The purpose of position is to support GenTax, the tax processing system of record for New Mexico, and Taxpayer Access Point (TAP) the online tax filing system for New Mexico. This position works with the GenTax Bureau to administer and distribute over $16 billion of tax revenue to the counties, municipalities and other beneficiaries of New Mexico.
How does it get done?
This position will be responsible for:
Customers include internal Taxation and Revenue Department users of the GenTax system, taxpayers using Taxpayer Access Point to file and pay any of the over 40 tax programs supported in the tax system, and the counties, municipalities and other beneficiaries of New Mexico.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and four (4) years of experience in software programming. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Must be current with all tax reporting/payment. Employment is subject to post offer pre-employment criminal background check to include fingerprint checks and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting. Some standing, bending and reaching may be required.

- Developing and implementing software changes to GenTax and Taxpayer Access Point (TAP.)
- Developing application specifications, write application code, and perform application unit testing.
- Working with the GenTax team to problem-solve and respond quickly to changing requirements and customer needs.
- Responsible for identifying and investigating complex issues to aid in decision making and developing solutions.
- Configuring functionality to meet business needs using tools within the software's user interface, as well as either VB.Net or C#. Creates and modifies SQL queries to efficiently retrieve data from a relational database, implement new features and navigate them through testing and deployment.
- Working with business analysts and quality assurance analysts during the testing process to ensure that the solution meets the business needs.
