The New Mexico State Police, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, (NMSP-CVE), of the New Mexico Department of Public Safety Is the lead Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) agency within the State of New Mexico. The mission of the NMSP-CVE is to promote safety on New Mexico highways by providing law enforcement traffic services to the motoring public, to ensure
the safe and legal operation of commercial motor vehicles, and to prevent the Introduction of Illicit contraband into New Mexico. The ultimate goal of the NMSP-CVE Is to reduce crashes involving commercial motor vehicles.
Why does the job exist?
An MTD Transportation Inspector Supervisor devotes a substantial portion of time assigning and directly supervising work of at least two (2) full time equivalent employees, acting upon leave requests, conducting annual performance evaluations, and recommending disciplinary actions. Interviewing and recommending selection of applicants and conducting training of personnel. Inspect commercial vehicles, drivers, and cargo for safety and to ensure compliance with state / federal laws, statutes, and regulations.

Activities of an MTD Transportation Inspector Supervisor contribute to ensuring safety in motor carrier operations through strong enforcement of safety regulations; targeting high-risk carriers and commercial motor vehicle drivers; Improving safety information systems and commercial motor vehicle technologies; strengthening commercial motor vehicle equipment and operating standards; and Increasing safety awareness. Duties Include inspection and revenue compliance to process commercial vehicles and their cargo through fixed and mobile ports of entry. Certified personal perform inspections verifying compliance with size-weight-load regulations, motor vehicle regulations, and minimum safety standards, including hazardous materials transportation and checking for impaired drivers or contraband. Transportation Inspectors work with Federal, and local enforcement agencies, the motor carrier Industry, labor safety Interest groups, and others.

The customers are the Department of Public Safety and the general public of the State of New Mexico.
Ideal Candidate
The Ideal candidate will have the following experience :
- At least 4 years of experience conducting technical commercial motor vehicle Inspections.
- Experience with credential checks, weight enforcement and permit compliance at Port of Entry.
- At least 6 months experience Interpreting state statutes and oversize / overweight NMAC regulations.
- Supervisory experience.
Minimum Qualification
High school diploma and one (1) year general work experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Must successfully complete North American Standards certification.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license, a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Continued employment Is subject to a national fingerprint-based record checks withing 30 days of assignment and contingent upon remaining felony-free, per Section 5. 12. 1. 1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Polley. Occasional overtime and travel may be required. Ability to Ifft up to SO lbs.
Working Conditions
Work Is performed in an office and field setting with significant sitting, lifting, dragging, bending, kneeling, standing, walking, crawling, driving, and exposure to stressful situations, noise and uncooperative subjects. Performs duties in all types of Inclement weather conditions.
