Responsibilities

Reporting to the Administrative Officer III, this position will independently perform various administrative and personnel functions and is responsible for managing highly sensitive and confidential information. Â Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting the Administrative Specialist I in Human Resources.Â
  • Serving as back-up to the Time Administrator and time entries in the personnel system.Â
  • Assisting with the processing of personnel actions such as separations, leave of absences, and worker's compensation claims. Creating and managing worker's compensation cases.
  • Updating and maintaining weekly reporting of Correctional Officer vacancies.Â
  • Scheduling new hire training.Â
  • Scheduling interviews.
  • Processing new hire packages.
  • Assisting with hiring contractual staff.Â
  • Serving as the Administrative section Safety Officer.Â
  • Serving as a Health Benefits Representative and assists employees with a wide variety of personnel issues and concerns. Â

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.Â

About Pender Correctional Institution

Pender Correctional Institution is located in Burgaw, North Carolina and houses up to 750 male offenders in a medium custody facility.The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. Â This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. The Division of Institutions employs over 19,000 staff, operates 56 institutions and is responsible for the care and custody of approximately 30,000 incarcerated individuals across North Carolina.
