What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Programming Specialist position at State of North Carolina?
The Behavioral Programming Specialist (BPS) assists in the coordination of the individual behavior programming portion of the total habilitation plan for individuals with significant intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who may also have other conditions such as physical and/or psychiatric problems. All work is done under the direct supervision of a divisional staff psychologist. Job responsibilities include the following:
- Assists with gathering and collecting behavioral data.
- Assists with completion of evaluations of individual adaptive, developmental, and/or social behaviors.
- Assists with development of behavior interventions, implementation, training, and program monitoring; and engagement in direct resident contacts and observations.
- Functions as liaison with the treatment team and have input into habilitation planning.
Work Time: 8 AM - 5 PM (Flex Schedule)

- Working knowledge of learning theory and behavioral analysis and application of those to the population served.
- Working knowledge of different modes of data collection needed in developing behavior support programs; practical application of adaptive, developmental and social behavior assessments and goal writing and program implementation.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of working with individuals with significant intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health disorders.
- Ability to adhere to federal, state, and local provisions, regulations, and standards regarding behavior programming processes.
- Skills in observing, recording, and evaluating adaptive, social and/or developmental behavior among population served.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.

Bachelor's degree in child development, social work, education, nursing, or closely related degree including coursework in behavior modification from an appropriately accredited institution and six months of experience in a developmental center or developmental disability setting;
or
Associate degree in human services area from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience providing assessment of adaptive developmental and social behavior, goal writing, collecting and interpreting behavioral data, and developing and implementing behavior modification programs;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary : $31,200 - $52,813
