Description of Work
Murdoch Developmental Center (MDC), one of three Regional Centers in the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities within the Department of Health and Human Services, is located in Butner, NC near the Research Triangle area. MDC is a 24 / 7 state residential facility that serves approximately 400 individuals with intellectual / developmental disabilities (I / DD) across 10 divisions and 2 group homes. MDC strives to provide exceptional residential person-centered treatment / care with a commitment to transitioning people to appropriate community settings. Additionally, as an integral part of the North Carolina I / DD continuum of care, MDC works to strengthen and / or enhance community supports / providers outside of the Center.
We seek to find a Clinical Chaplain to meet the diverse spiritual, emotional, and social needs of the people living at MDC. This position is solely responsible for planning and providing inter-faith spiritual and religious services and activities designed to engage the individuals living at the Center. Work is performed with considerable independence and requires the exercise of initiative and discretion. More specific responsibilities include : planning and leading weekly Chapel worship services to include scheduling of special entertainment for services, visiting residents in the Infirmary on campus or in near-by community hospitals, participation in the Palliative Care process for residents receiving comfort care, planning and leading personalized memorial services along with input from the interdisciplinary team, provision of general pastoral counseling to residents and staff, planning and leading annual summer celebration, arranging for and coordinating volunteers to assist with transporting residents to services, planning and leading spiritual and morality based activities within the residential areas, and active participation in MDC's employee support program (CARE). The Clinical Chaplain works with every residential treatment team at MDC and is expected to self-initiate the development of rapport with the individuals who live at MDC as well as the staff who work at MDC. This position is also responsible for the supervision of Volunteer Services (which includes two staff) as well as an Administrative Specialist.
Work Schedule : Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 8am - 5pm, Wednesday 8am - 8pm & Sunday 8am - 1pm (40 hrs. / wk.)

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in related field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of residency in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and Ordination or membership in a recognized religious governed body.
